I finally got around to buying the District 9 DVD (saw it twice in cinemas), so fooking good.

To celebrate, I decided to make my own prawn whilst revising for an upcoming exam (I'm re-listening to lectures), and so Thomas came into being.

About six hours work, made from nails, pipe cleaners, masking tape and tin foil. Painted with a layer of white gesso, then acryilics. DVD in the top right photo included to give a sense of scale (and to give Thomas something to say).

Thanks to the flexibility of the pipe cleaners and tape, he's pretty much fully posable and can stay posed and standing up as long as he has something to lean on. As planned, the masking tape gives a pretty good scaled down chitinous feel, and the slightly muddy colours give him a slummy filthy look.
